CHM 223 Chemistry III: Organic Chemistry (2025)

LibreTexts

Material builds on introductory organic chemistry topics covered in CHM 222 and focuses more heavily on retrosynthetic analysis and multistep synthetic planning. Specific topics include reactions of alkyl halides, alcohols and ethers; aromaticity and reactions of benzene; and cycloaddition reactions including the Diels-Alder reaction.

Polymer Chemistry

David Whisnant · Wofford College

Polymers are giant molecules (also called macromolecules) that are essential to our existence. They are important chemicals in our bodies (proteins, DNA), in plants (starch, cellulose), and in our everyday lives (fibers, plastics). Polymers are made by transforming small molecules (monomers) into molecules with very large molecular weights. Although the chemical properties of polymers are similar to those of analogous small molecules, their physical properties are quite different.

Fundamentals of Biochemistry III - Information Pathways

Henry Jakubowski and Patricia Flatt · LibreTexts

We explore the biochemistry of informational macromolecules (DNA, RNA, and proteins), key players in the Central Dogma of Biology. We use molecular models to facilitate an understanding of structure/function relations. In addition, we explore reaction mechanisms for converting the information in DNA into RNA and then into proteins. This material is usually studied in molecular biology courses.
