Algebra and Trigonometry
Jay Abramson · Arizona State University
Algebra is the study of mathematical symbols and the rules for manipulating these symbols. It is a unifying thread of almost all of mathematics. Elementary algebra is generally considered to be essential for any study of mathematics, science, or engineering, as well as such applications as medicine and economics. Elementary algebra differs from arithmetic in the use of abstractions, such as using letters to stand for numbers that are either unknown or allowed to take on many values.

Biology
John W. Kimball · Tufts University & Harvard University
Biology is the study of life, from the molecules inside cells to the diversity of organisms and ecosystems. This book begins with the chemical and molecular basis of life, then explores how cells function, use energy, and transmit genetic information. It also examines how organisms develop, evolve, and interact with their environments, and introduces key tools in biotechnology, medicine, and scientific research. Together, these units offer a concise overview of how life operates at every level.
