The Odyssey

Homer · translated by Samuel Butler

The Odyssey is one of two major ancient Greek epic poems attributed to Homer. It is, in part, a sequel to the Iliad, the other Homeric epic. The Odyssey is a fundamental work in the modern Western canon, being the oldest extant piece of Western literature, second to the Iliad. Scholars believe the Odyssey was composed near the end of the 8th century BC, somewhere in Ionia, the Greek coastal region of Anatolia.

Enrique Yepes · Bowdoin College, Colegiatura Colombiana, & Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana

This quick Socio-Cultural history provides an overview of the chronology of Spain (from the Middle Ages) and Spanish America (from Pre-Columbian times) to the beginning of the 21st century. It can serve as contextual reading for the “panoramic” courses on Hispanic literatures and art which are often taught on third-year Spanish courses in US universities. It is also useful as a reference for classes or conversations on any aspect of the Spanish cultures.

Beyond Lean: Simulation in Practice

Charles R. Standridge · Grand Valley State University

Lean thinking, as well as associated processes and tools, have involved into a ubiquitous perspective for improving systems particularly in the manufacturing arena. Discrete event simulation is recognized as one beyond-the-boundaries of lean technique. Thus, the fundamental goal of this text is to show how discrete event simulation can be used in addition to lean thinking to achieve greater benefits in system improvement than with lean alone.

Histories of Indigenous Peoples and Canada

John Belshaw, Sarah Nickel, and Chelsea Horton · LibreTexts

Histories of Indigenous Peoples and Canada was conceived in 2016 as material in support of a new 3rd-year History course at Thompson Rivers University – Open Learning. The need for such an online course was underlined with the release of the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in 2015. In the process of developing the curriculum, it was decided that the part you see here could be shared as a stand-alone Open Educational Resource (OER) in the form of an open textbook.
