CHE 115: Instrumental Analysis Lab Manual

W. R. Fawcett, John Berg, P. B. Kelley, Carlito B. Lebrilla, Gang-yu Liu, Delmar Larsen, Paul Hrvatin, David Goodin, and Brooke McMahon · University of California, Davis

This manual is the culmination of the efforts of many individuals. While some of the experiments are "classics", and appear in various forms in many Quantitative Analysis textbooks and laboratory manuals, much effort was expended to ensure that the experiments work well here at UC Davis and thus each experiment has been extensively tailored for our laboratory program. We view this manual as one of continual modification, and often improvements arise from comments and criticisms.

Quantitative NMR

Cynthia K. Larive & Albert K. Korir · University of California, Riverside & Drury University

Quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance (Q-NMR) measurements are especially useful for analysis of complex samples where high specificity is needed or when a pure standard of the analyte is not available. This text provides a brief overview of basic NMR theory, a tutorial discussing the practical aspects of Q-NMR, a virtual experiment utilizing an NMR simulator, an exercise that makes use of real NMR data you can download and analyze, and a Q-NMR lab experiments.

Organic Synthesis

Kevin Shea · Smith College

My goal in writing this text is to help advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students learn key topics in organic chemistry that often don't come up in your Organic I and II classes. So, you can think about this as an Organic III text. My focus is on key reaction types that enable the construction of complex organic molecules: pericyclic reactions, transition metal catalyzed reactions, rearrangements, fragmentations, radical reactions, and carbene reactions. High Performance Computing

Chuck Severance · University of Michigan

The purpose of this book is to teach new programmers and scientists about the basics of High Performance Computing. Too many parallel and high performance computing books focus on the architecture, theory and computer science surrounding HPC. This book speaks to the practicing chemistry student, physicist, or biologist who need to write and run their programs as part of their research.

Nonlinear and Two-Dimensional Spectroscopy (Tokmakoff)

Andrei Tokmakoff · University of Chicago

Different spectroscopies give you different perspectives. Linear spectroscopy commonly refers to light-matter interaction with one primary incident radiation field which is weak, and can be treated as a linear response between the incident light and the matter. From a quantum mechanical view of the light field, it is often conceived as a “one photon in/one photon out” measurement. Nonlinear spectroscopy is used to refer to cases that fall outside this view.
